Abstract

The British have an apt saying: man created himself. This fully applies to Serhiyenko Mykola Hryhorovych. Mykola Hryhorovych was born on May 21, 1941 in the city of Merefa, Kharkiv region, into a working-class family and was the second child.
After graduating with honors in 1965 from the Medical Faculty of the Kharkiv Medical Institute, he studied in graduate school (1965-1968), worked as an assistant (1968-1969) and associate professor (1969-1976) at the Department of Normal Physiology. In 1968 he defended his dissertation on "The relationship between the distribution of norepinephrine and serotonin in the brain and the nature of its bioelectrical activity."
